Build a Shadow Army in VR: How Shadow Extraction Works in ARISE
The single most requested Solo Leveling fantasy is not the sword or the rank. It is the moment a defeated enemy rises again — for you. In ARISE that moment happens in your own room: the enemy goes down on your floor, you pinch over it, and it comes back as a shadow soldier that is yours for good. This guide explains exactly how extraction works, what your shadows do, and how to grow the army.
Extraction, step by step
- Win the fight. Enter a combat gate from ariseinvr.com/play on your Quest 3 and put the enemy down — bare hands, a drawn weapon or a thrown dagger all count.
- Find the orb. A fallen enemy leaves a shadow orb where it dropped. Walk to it; the combat is real-scale, so you physically cross the room.
- Pinch to extract. With hand tracking, pinch thumb and index finger over the orb. The System calls it: ARISE. On controllers, the extract prompt appears over the orb instead.
- It is yours. The shadow is added to your army permanently. Extraction also pays bonus XP — raising a shadow is worth more than merely killing it.
What your shadows do
They fight beside you
Summoned shadows stand with you in the gate and take enemies on their own. Your army grows fight by fight, so a hunter with a deep roster walks into a gate with backup while a fresh awakened walks in alone.
They level with you
Shadows keep their progress. Every gate they survive makes them stronger, and a shadow raised from a tougher enemy starts stronger than one raised from a grunt — so who you choose to extract matters.
They can take your place
Pinch both hands together and you swap places with your shadow: it steps into the fight while your real punches land through its fists, Real Steel style. It is the safest way to take on something that outclasses you — and the most Solo Leveling thing in the game.
They have a home
The Hall of Shadows is where your army stands when there is no gate open. Walk its ranks, see who has grown, and pick a sparring partner: shadow boxing lets you spar your own shadows for AGI and punch practice between gates.
Growing the army faster
- Train. Real reps fund your gate entries, and more gates mean more extractions. Skip training and the gates stay shut — the System keeps score.
- Extract everything. Bonus XP on every extraction compounds across a session.
- Go for the boss. One boss-class shadow changes how the next gate feels.
- Use substitution wisely. Swapping in a shadow spends its stamina, not yours; use it for the enemy you cannot yet face head-on.
How this compares to the Shadow Army in the story
In Solo Leveling the Shadow Monarch's army is the payoff of the whole series. ARISE is an independent game inspired by that fantasy — it does not contain the story's characters or named shadows, and it is not affiliated with the rights holders. What it keeps is the rule that made the fantasy work: nothing you defeat is wasted. Every fallen enemy is a soldier you have not raised yet.
